ortfolio. The 14, 16, 22 and 26 mm diameter models are now each available in a long version (L), which offers higher continuous torque and higher continuous output power.

At the same time, maxon motor is introducing four new GPX planetary gearheads, in the sizes 14, 19, 26 and 37 mm, compatible to existing products in the program. These gearheads are designed with scaled gear stages. Each of the new 3-stage gearheads can be driven with the next smaller motor. This brings many advantages, as the resulting drive system is smaller, lighter and more economical.

That’s not all, starting immediately, the existing GPX 16 and GPX 32 models are available in various versions and can be equipped with ceramic axles to reduce wear. Customers looking for a particularly low-noise gearhead have the option of choosing plastic planetary gears.

maxon also expanded the encoder portfolio. The new ENX 16 Easy absolute encoder is available as an SSI or BiSS-C version, according to the customer’s requirements.

All new products are available in the online shop starting immediately. They can be easily configured together with the other maxon X drive products: Customers select the desired motor, the matching winding, brushes and shaft length, as well as the gearhead and encoder. maxon’s NEW BLDC motor EC 19 and planetary gearhead GP 19 M

maxon's brushless EC19 with gearhead GP 19M

maxon’s brushless EC19 with gearhead GP 19M

High power up to 120 W, speeds up to 100,000 rpm, sterilizable 1000 times.

The new brushless drive with a diameter of 19 mm has been specially designed for high speeds and features low heat development and extremely quiet and low-vibration running. This little powerhouse has applications in centers for miniaturized processing, hand-held tools and medical technology. When combined with planetary gearheads, many possible variations are available for applications in these key markets.

With its modular construction, this new brushless DC motor is available in three performance classes: the cost-optimized EC 19 at 60 Watt, the strong and high-speed EC 19 at 120 Watt and the sterilizable high-end version EC 19 at 120 Watt.

The internals of the drives are responsible for their individual characteristics:

  • The EC 19 at 60 W is equipped with a magnetic circuit that is designed for speeds of up to 80,000 rpm. The maximum continuous torque is 12 mNm and the motor contains no Hall sensors.
  • The EC 19 at 120 W has been designed for speeds of up to 100,000 rpm and delivers a high continuous torque of 24 mNm. Versions with and without Hall sensors are available.
  • The EC 19 Sterilizable at 120 W may be sterilized in an autoclave 1000 times. With a maximum permissible speed of 100,000 rpm and 24 mNm continuous torque, this drive also withstands high temperatures and harsh steam cycles. This is achieved through careful selection of materials and through protection of the components such as in the hermetically sealed rotor magnet.

With maxon motor’s winding technology, it is possible to offer various voltage versions. The stator has been designed without slots. Therefore, no cogging torque occurs resulting in excellent control properties and extraordinarily smooth running. Together with an optimally balanced rotor, low-noise and low-vibration operation is easily achieved.

maxon’s new sterilizable planetary gearhead, the GP 19 M is ideal for applications requiring very high speeds – input speeds of up to 40,000 rpm. To accommodate such high speeds, the toothing and materials have been especially designed to minimize friction. A key demand placed on the material is 1000 sterilization cycles. The gearhead contains a special shaft seal. Worth noting is the no-need to disassemble the drive unit for the sterilization process.

The new 19 mm drives are particularly suitable for surgical and dental devices, such as arthroscopic shavers and bone drills. There is also a focus on respirators and CAD/CAM spindle drives.

The maxon X drives family of configurable products is growing.

The center of the maxon motor is the unique ironless winding, maxon System. This motor concept has unique advantages, including low electromagnetic interference and a complete lack of magnetic cogging torque. The efficiency is unrivaled by other motor systems.

The maxon X drives family is being expanded to include two additional motor sizes: 16 mm and 32 mm. The new 16 mm DCX 16 S is available with precious metal and graphite brushes and can be combined with the new GPX 16 planetary gearhead in the customary modular system. Combinations with ENX encoders round off the modular system for demanding control tasks. The new DCX 32 L is also available with graphite brushes and can be combined with the GPX 32. This 32 mm diameter DC motor is a powerhouse with excellent parameters that can easily hold up to the competition. The high thermal resistance helps it achieve higher continuous power.

Three more versions are also being added to the GPX gearhead family. The GPX 16 and GPX 32 gearheads are available with diameters matching those of the motors, in 1-stage and 2-stage versions. The planetary gearheads have scaled gear stages. That means the geometry has been optimized for the load in each stage. With the compact design and the welded connections at the motors, the length may be kept to an absolute minimum.

The GP 16 A planetary gearhead, manufactured by maxon, has been part of the company’s product program for many years, with great success. On the GPX 16, it was possible to install larger ball bearings. This increases the maximum permissible radial load by several factors. The maximum permitted input speed was also significantly increased to 14,000 rpm.

The GPX 32 planetary gearhead features higher input speeds of up to 7,000 rpm and higher continuous torques of up to 2.9 Nm. The previous values were 6,000 rpm and 2.25 Nm.

The 22 mm planetary gearhead is now also available as a low-backlash version, the GPX 22 LZ. In total, there are now four different gearhead versions available: standard, ceramic, reduced noise level and reduced backlash.
